  6. Spend your semester or academic year in France!
*NOTE: students MUST first start the UWL study abroad
application process. Students can ONLY start the University
of Lorraine application process after our office nominates them. 
VISA INFORMATION
Students will need to apply for a student visa prior to departure. 
Students should start this process as soon as they receive their acceptance
letter from their host institution as this process can be lengthy.

NOTE: UWL DOES NOT arrange student visas. Students are required to
independently arrange for their student visa and need to be aware that this is
a TIME SENSITIVE requirement that will include an additional out-of-pocket cost.
HOUSING
On-campus housing and apartments are available. Click here to
learn more about all the accommodation options offer at UL. 

NOTE: UL is closed during the summer; therefore, students
need to make sure they make their housing arrangement with 
UL in a timely manner before they close for their summer vacation.

Students who are interested in renting private apartments are
responsible for finding their own accommodation.

Note: Fall semester final exams at UL might over lap with UWL spring semester.
However, students can still participate in a fall semester abroad at UL, but might
need to complete online assignments, tests, and/or submit papers once back home
to complete their fall semester at UL.

ELIGIBILITY
  • 2.5 GPA.
  • Sophomore status at start of program.
  • Good academic standing.
  • Good disciplinary record on campus. 
  • Students need to be recommended by a UWL
    French language faculty.
  • Students need to be comfortable working independently.   
Students who are interested in studying abroad, but do not meet
eligibility requirements, are encouraged to make an appointment
with an education abroad advisor. We will assess each situation on a
case-by-case basis.

FINANCIAL INFORMATION

Students will pay ONLY UWL resident tuition while abroad, even if the student is currently paying out-of-state tuition at UWL. Students need to be enrolled full-time with a minimum of 12 credits hours. Please refer to the Budget Sheet at the top of this online brochure for more information.
